Rediscovering Innocence: The TikTok Trend of the Updated Rice Purity Test

In these times as the pandemic-induced tension gradually subsides, various social media platforms are buzzing with the creation of intriguing new ideas. Back in the 1920s, a renowned rice purity test captured the curiosity of young minds, serving as a captivating survey aiming to determine one's innocence based on life experiences. This virtual gem from the past has now been resurrected in a modern guise as the "Innocence Test," a sensation circulating on TikTok and BuzzFeed.

The Innocence Test comprises 100 questions that explore various facets of life, often touching on activities people engage in for fun. It kicks off with a simple inquiry, such as "Have you ever been on a date?" and progresses to more intriguing questions like "Have you ever been in a relationship?" The setup is reminiscent of the popular teenage game, "Never Have I Ever," and it has quickly gained popularity on TikTok and BuzzFeed, captivating the online community.

The Rice Purity Test on TikTok, an updated version of the classic, gained momentum due to its realization that the original test had become somewhat outdated. Two TikTok creators breathed new life into it, attracting over a million participants in just 24 hours. Completing the test involves ticking off the experiences you've had, with TikTok calculating the number of statements you've ticked. The app adds an extra layer of fun by assigning quirky nicknames to participants, complete with amusing descriptions.

While the Rice Purity Test has taken TikTok by storm, it does come with a slight drawback - its lengthiness. However, the intriguing questions make it hard to resist continuing. Despite its origins in probing experiences related to sex and relationship romance, the creators emphasize that it's not a bucket list or something to feel pressured by. It's just a test, and the creators don't endorse any particular behavior. The cautionary note is followed by a simple "Enjoy," and users certainly do.

BuzzFeed also offers a similar test series titled "Are You Innocent or Do You Have a Dirty Mind?" with a cheeky approach to surveys. If you prefer not to log into TikTok or BuzzFeed, the Rice Purity Test website provides a user-friendly interface with 100 questions that you can simply tick or untick to assess your innocence.
