Munich director parted ways with club after 10 years

Bayern Munich's technical director, who spearheaded the signings of Kim Min-jae and Harry Kane, is leaving the club.

"Marco Neppe's long-term contract with the Bavarians will soon come to an end," Florian Plettenberg told German broadcaster Sky Sports on Wednesday (Aug. 23). The discussions are ongoing and have made progress."

Nepe played as a defensive midfielder during his career. He came up through the youth ranks of current Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, but failed to establish himself in the team. Neppe also played for lower league clubs such as Wuppertaler SV and SV Wesen Wiesbaden. Neppe announced his retirement from active play in July 2014.

After hanging up his boots, Neppe turned administrator. He began his second career in soccer when he was appointed as a scout for Munich. In the summer of 2017, he became Munich's chief scout. In December 2021, he was promoted to Munich's technical director. Neppe has been with the club for 10 years.

Neymar was involved in Munich's transfer market strategy. According to Plettenberg, Nepe was instrumental in the signings of Kane and Kim Min-jae. Kane signed for €95 million ($138.2 billion) and Kim Min-jae for €50 million ($72.7 billion). Both players have grown into first-team regulars for Munich. De Licht was also driven by Neymar.

Neymar has been instrumental in strengthening the Bavarian side, but now the two sides are preparing to part ways. If Neymar leaves, he will be leaving Munich after 10 years. It remains to be seen who the Bavarians will bring in to replace him as director of football.
