'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em' Owen says best moment was Liverpool?

Michael Owen's greatest career moment was winning the FA Cup with Liverpool in 2001.

On March 23, Talk Sport published an exclusive interview with Owen. In the interview, Owen discusses his favorite moments of his career.

Owen was a world-class striker who played for Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. At Liverpool, he scored 158 goals in his career and was the Premier League (PL) top scorer twice. Most importantly, he remains the last Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or, having won it in 2001.

For Owen, who boasts one of the best individual careers of his career, his best moments came at Liverpool. "The English FA Cup final against Arsenal in the 2000-01 season was my best moment," he said, according to the media.

It's a bit of a puzzling answer. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" is how Owen described his move to Liverpool's biggest rival, Manchester United. He's won a lot of trophies since then, but the one thing he's missing is a PL trophy. Liverpool fans were outraged that he made such an inexcusable statement, let alone moved to United. The Reds eventually won the PL title in the 2010-11 season.

"It's obviously great to be recognized during your playing career, and I have the Ballon d'Or trophy sitting proudly at home. But my on-pitch achievement was the 2001 FA Cup final against Arsenal," says Owen.

"That was a game I'll never forget. Up until the 85th minute I thought we were going to lose, but I still thought we had a chance, and luckily I got two minutes."

Liverpool faced Arsenal in the English FA Cup final in the 2000-01 season. After conceding a 72nd-minute goal to Freddie Ljungberg, the Reds were on the ropes, but 토토사이트 Owen scored back-to-back goals in the 83rd and 88th minutes to lead his team to a come-from-behind victory. In five minutes, he single-handedly turned his team around and lifted the trophy.

It was Liverpool's best year ever. Along with the FA Cup, they lifted five trophies: the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup), Community Shield, UEFA Europa League, and Super Cup. "It's been an incredible season," said Owen.

Owen moved to a rival team for the league title. But the best moments of his career were still with his hometown club, Liverpool.
