NBA Philadelphia, Embiid and extension contract 3 years, 257.7 billion won

The Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) signed an extension contract with the team's star player, Joel Embiid (30, 213 cm).

Philadelphia announced on the 21st (Korean time), "We have signed a multi-year extension contract with Embiid." The club did not disclose the term or amount, but American sports media outlet ESPN estimated that "it is worth $192.9 million (about 257.7 billion won) over three years."

Embiid will play in Philadelphia until the 2028-2029 season, and his annual salary for the final season of his contract, the 2028-2029 season, will be $69 million, or more than 92.1 billion won in Korean currency.

Embiid is a center who was selected third overall by Philadelphia in the 2014 rookie draft.

He was selected as the MVP of the 2022-2023 regular season, and has an impressive career including being the scoring leader in 2022 and 2023 and being selected as an All-Star seven times.

Born in Cameroon, he also became a French citizen in 2022, but ultimately competed in this year's Paris Olympics wearing the uniform of Team USA, where he won a gold medal.

"Philadelphia is my home," Embiid said. "I want to play here until the end of my career."

Philadelphia's best finish since Embiid's arrival is a second-round appearance in the playoffs. Their last championship came in 1983.
