Who should use single touch payroll and how does it work?

Most Australian employers will have to use single touch payroll even though they may be small businesses with a single or more employees. It operates under STP-enabled payroll software which automatically sends wages, tax and super information to the ATO every time a payroll is done. The employers just carry out regular payroll, and the information is provided electronically. The exemptions are minimal, although the micro employers could be allowed to report in other ways.
